OP when my child was being recruited we bought a book on amazon about college rowing recruitment. I just checked + there is still a good book there. And yes to an earlier question- boys + girls can be recruited.

Wrong. Thompson Boat Club is an excellent club team with great coaches. St. Albans and NCS. However your kid is not getting into these schools bc of crew LOL

My niece was a cox recruited from private and club to an Ivy this year. Signed in October.

As with any sport, the answer is that you have to participate on both your school and a club team to be considered for recruitment, including coxes.

From everything I know, in this area this is a sport where the public schools really dominate: Whitman, BCC and Wilson usually top the varsity podiums. Maybe in the petites or silver or bronze you will find a smattering of privates like Gonzaga, Holton, GDS, STA and NCS. But not consistently.


Most of the recruiting in this area comes from club leve!. We know a lot more privste school recruits than public.

OP, there is no way to say. What has worked for one student in one situation can’t be automatically applied to others. Your child should do what makes them happy and what interests them.

Do any of the privates have a good rowing team?

Any thoughts on whether being a Coxswain moves the needle for college admissions? Apparently, a friend was advised of this by a private college counseling company. I'm clueless when it comes to rowing and not sure if I should tell her to get a second opinion!
