Yup. My nephew who was 8 weeks premature barely got NICU time, and is now a master’s student at MIT in a long-term relationship

This is all great, but people with ADHD, anxiety , and autism can do all these things.

Actually there is.

It is really difficult to suss out causation with these things. My 34 weeker had some mild issues that have not held the child back from anything, but those could just as easily have been attributed to genetics or birth trauma (nuchal x3).

If you google mental health issues and premature babies you can read up on some of the studies.

We were able to keep mine cooking to 38 weeks, but I was a wreck so they must have bathed in my stress hormones the whole time and now have anxiety. Maybe prematurity would have spared them that.

Agree with PP. This used to give me a lot of anxiety. Yes being a preemie is part of their medical history. But nothing to do about it.

DD is now 3 and I try to stress much less about it than I used to.

It does not matter because there is nothing you can do about it. My twins were 8 weeks premature. They are still young (6yo), but so far so good. No need to stress about about diagnoses or SNs until you have to. And at that point, it does not really matter what caused it. Good luck, OP.

+1 There is definitely a higher chance of ADHD, learning disabilities etc with prematurity but it isn’t given. My child was born 15 weeks early, and has been lucky to grow up without any of these issues.

Would being born at 6 weeks increase the risk they'll have autism, ADHD, and anxiety?
