Two movies came to mind when I rad your post, The Ring by Danielle Steel and Italian movie Malena. Seems like you found the right movies already.

You're very welcome! I saw it as a teenager. And I saw it again on TCM a few years ago thru adult eyes. It is a very haunting film. Stunning cinematography.

Robert Mitchum's performance always stayed with me--understated, subdued and incredibly loyal to Rosy as opposed to his sometimes menacing, terrifying roles in movies like Cape Fear and The Night of the Hunter.

PS this trailer entirely misses the parts when she ends up in France during the WW2 as a castle owner with her husband who gives it to ther for her B day present.. and then during the war he goes to fight and she is left behind and she fells in love with a German officer stationing in the castle. .. and all that...

What year would it have been.. it is easier to narrow down. The portrayal pf sympathizers with shorn hair has been in quite a few movies.

Weirdly that is ringing a bell with me too but I'm sorry I don't have a title for you...

So, I watched this movie as a child (10 maybe?) and a it made an impression. I don't remember all the details but it was about this woman, which had beautiful long red or strawberry blond hair. In my recollections, she has a romance with an enemy soldier and the townspeople gran her and shorn off her hair.

I don't remember much, but that scene made such an impression on me. Does anyone here know which movie is this? It was an old movie.
