She and her partner will be welcomed with open arms into the Episcopal Church. 🙂

Ugh, that church sounds awful. Why would anyone in their right mind want to be associated with it?

How awful of them. I hope they are publicly shamed for their harassment. And the couple looks so cute!

+1. This is not the denomination you choose if you are interested in open-minded people. She might have gotten this letter if she left her husband to move in with another man. That would have been equally scandalous.

This is a gut punch. My partner broke up with me a few months ago while experiencing debilitating anxiety. A significant factor was her role in church leadership (and feeling she could not continue our relationship because of it) as well as deep seated feelings of not being able to be open about her relationship with her family. I don’t know if her church would have ever sent her a letter like this but it weighed so heavily on her mind.

I know one of the men who signed. I moved away about 5 years ago. Crazy.

I’m surprised they let her remain a member after divorcing. There’s no way they’d accept gay members. My great grandmother had her membership revoked after attending a church of Christ for decades when they found out she had been previously married and divorced.

I had my membership revoked from a Southern Baptist church for a different reason. I would’ve gotten a letter, but the pastor interceded and spoke with me personally. I bet she had no idea churches did things like that. I mean everyone has probably heard of excommunication in the Catholic Church, but Protestant churches that don’t have the same structure? I was told I could still attend and would be welcomed, but I couldn’t vote at business meetings and wouldn’t be listed as a member. I didn’t feel welcome and that really turned me away from religion. I really feel bad for her. It’s a total mindf*ck to be rejected by your church.

This is why religion should be criminalized.

I wonder how many of the signers are having affairs? Beating their wives? Cheating on their taxes? Let he who has not sinned throw the first stone.

You say that like it’s not standard practice in the major denominations for men to be the leadership/senior pastors in all the churches?

A Georgia hairdresser who divorced her husband and is now in a relationship with another woman has been told by her church that she must repent for her 'sinful behavior' or else be publicly denounced and excommunicated.

Krystal Cox was informed in writing by the elders of Woodstock Church of Christ that they were concerned about 'the condition of your soul'.

Cox, who has been attending the church in Woodstock, 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta, for around five years, told her local news channel she was deeply hurt by the letter.

This is just 30 miles outside of Atlanta - the equivalent of driving from D.C. to Chantilly, VA.

The letter they sent her.
