If you knew the quality and history of the Birkin you would understand. I own bags from most of the high end designers and the quality of the Birkin reigns supreme. It’s like the Patek of the handbag world or the sidwell or ncs of private schools in this area in dc mom and dad speak. Why do people go on trips or collect cars or send kids to private school? Everyone has their own reason.

I got one Birkin right after holidays in a Colorado store (saw it on a high shelf in the corner of the store, so I asked the SA about it) and my second one I bought in NYC store (I thought they had such a long waitlist that they weren't taking anymore people for the list). Have bought smaller things mostly scarves, ties and some accessories (bracelets, watch, belt) over the years at various stores. The second purse I was offered as I bought a coat, was telling SA that my Birkin was so heavy so she offered me a smaller one. So, don't think you need to spend a lot at one store. Their computer system is all connected. But for the record, these are really well made bags but not all that practical for me. (Heavy, hard to close, and small straps) Going to get the Evellyne next.

Thanks. This is helpful. I wasn’t sure as I have rarely seen high end bags in this area but thought it couldn’t hurt to ask. I know people here would rather spend discretionary funds on other things. The reseller market is insane. The bag I want is now up around 25k new on the reseller market. I would rather go through a boutique and buy other things I like and also get a bag.

If you are new to hermes, work your way up. Start with a scarf. Then get the wallet and so on. This will allow time to establish a relationship with an SA. Believe it or not, it is faster than just getting on the waiting list because unless you have a relationship you won't move up the list. And it's fun to get some accessories while you wait

That’s one way to see it. Another way to see it is that the bags are extremely scarce and primarily reserved for regular clients ie people who shop there regularly.

I would like to purchase a Birkin from the dc boutique. Chanel prices have gone through the roof and I’m not sure I need any more Chanel bags. Anyway, I started buying last year and I have watched videos and read on tpf some tips on acquiring one. I have also read it’s really hard to get offered a quota bag at the dc boutique and with this pandemic it seems like there are hardly any offers? For those who shop this boutique, what are my chances for a neutral bag at this store and what is the spend level lately? I have seen instagrammers spending a lot at the dc boutique. I wonder if I should give up and establish an sa relationship elsewhere? Any tips if I stay what I should buy? People say home goods and rtw and fine jewelry but is one category better than another? What do you have to spend to be offered a so? I’ve already checked the tpf dc feed and it has some information but not a lot. Thanks all.
