That’s standard procedure. More relevant for the older age groups when coaches get shuffled around more often

OP here. Thank you for this perspective. It’s helpful.

McLean Youth Soccer
2021-2022 Travel Team Formation

The MYS technical and management staff would like to thank you for your patience and adherence to protocols as we maneuvered through this past year and as guidelines surrounding COVID-19 continue to evolve. We are so proud of our players and families for adapting successfully to a new normal on the field. As we move forward we will continue to provide our membership with up to date information.

As the spring season and historically tryout season approaches, MYS’ plan for team formation for the 2021-2022 season is outlined below. The goal of this plan is to help alleviate stress that our players and families are experiencing and to continue developing and supporting our current players.

The plan for team formation for the 2021-2022 season:

Current Travel Players - Prior to tryouts sessions the coaching staff will determine a preliminary ranking of players in each age group based on the performance evaluation by the current coach from the 2020-2021 season. This ranking will serve as a guide for the incoming coach in determining the placement of players. All current players that are in good standing will be offered a spot to return for the 2021-2022 season. While we expect that most players will remain on their current team for next season, exact placement will be determined by the coaches and some players may be offered a spot on a different team within the club.

Initial Offer Process - Players will be notified of offers on a rolling basis beginning in late April and this process will be completed by May 21. Players will be required to register using the link provided to them with the offer and will need to submit a deposit to hold their spot within 48 hours.

Team Formation Sessions - We plan to hold limited team formation sessions by age group which will allow coaches to look at specific players to determine their best placement. Players from outside the club may be invited to these sessions. Dates and times are TBD.

Juniors Program - Current 2013 Juniors Program players will be offered spots in the U9 travel age group and 2014 birth year players will be placed in Juniors. Placement for these two age groups will be based on recommendations from the Juniors program and Recreation coaches and possible future placement sessions.

Coaching Assignments - Assignments for the 2021-2022 season will be announced shortly and communication of staffing will be posted on our website and sent to membership via email.

MYS Recreation players and players from outside the club - Those interested in joining an MYS Travel team can fill out this MYS Travel Tryout Interest Form 2021-2022 Season and as opportunities for evaluations are finalized, players will be sent an invitation to come to a session as space allows.

it means coach's favorites, and the players who do private training on the side with the coaches for extra $$.

just kidding. it means players who have paid their fees for the year.

The email today was confusing. Kids in “good standing” (what does that mean) will retain spots?

The u9-u12 should stay the same hopefully put KP with the green team. He is by far the best young teams coach we have.

I’m not talking about the SYC partnership - that’s been covered. I mean being all over the place on travel tryouts (yes we’ll have them, no we won’t, now we will have some), the lack of any forward discussion around coaches (the coach pages are completely down now on the website), and the rumored departures of several coaches. Our child is still on the younger side of things, but I’m starting to wonder about the long-term plan and viability of the club, and whether we need to start thinking about other clubs. Does anybody have info? Our coaches and admins really don’t seem to know much.
