New to all of this but I didn't know that waitlists could/would move b/f the May 1 deadline to commit.

Is this normal or another covid-influenced issue?

I am not sure how it works but I assume they have historical data and do a lot of estimates on yield. Then if they’re getting more declines than expected, they can open up a few waitlist spots. I think they will fine tune their waitlist to make sure that certain colleges or majors aren’t too full.

can someone quickly explain to me (so I don't have to start a new post)--do waitlists move by Accepted Kid A turns down the offer, so the college offers it to a kid on the waitlist, etc...or do some colleges wait until after May 1 and they have their class, and then start offering spots off the waitlist?

Because I don't understand why some waitlists would be moving and some are not, so clearly I don't understand how they work. Thanks!
