Statistically, OP is correct. The odds of being killed by someone you know vastly outweigh the odd is being the victim of a hate crime. You sound like an idiot for suggesting otherwise.

She went to Virginia with a friend who apparently is not missing. That’s a much more promising lead than assuming she managed to run into someone who’s itching to murder a “yankee.” There are plenty of trumpers and racists in Virginia (and MD, PA, etc.), but the vast majority of them manage to go their whole lives without murdering someone.

Its a strange story. She was here for her birthday and staying with friends in Southwest. They said she was going with them on a trip to Virginia and that's what she texted her daughter.

I'd want to know if police have interviewed those 'friends'
