For DW's car, she has inputs on size, type (electric) and color. I find the options and let her choose, then I deal with the details like the additional features, price, etc. and return home with her car. For our "family" car which I drive 90% of the time, I showed her a photo and said I want to buy this, what do you think and ask her input on color. I did all the rest. I'm a car person, she's not.

OP here. This is how my husband would like it to be. I want him to go to various dealerships with me to narrow down the car type. He wants me to do that alone. Ugh.

OP, so much of the research can be done online.

He loves cars and I don't, so he does the shopping. He also loves negotiating and is very good at it. I tell him what I want in a car, and he comes home with one. And we're both happy

We are a team. He does most of the research on models. Then I find the cars online, then negotiate.

I’m involved for my car, but not at all for his car besides giving opinions on looks.

Yes. I pick the color and car and options, then he negotiates and takes care of all of the actual buying.

He just was involved in the purchasing day. I did everything else myself.

Very little. I basically bought our minivan on my own. He stayed home and watched the kids while I shopped and bought it.

We make all big purchases together. It's not "oh *I* need a car" it's always "*WE* need a car, what should *WE* buy?"

We're a one car family, so pretty involved. I can see it working differently if one car is the "family" car and another is the commuter, or fun, or midlife crisis, or whatever car.

How involved is your spouse in your initial search, test drives and final purchase?
