this, I think half of my kid's U9 team when into tryouts not expecting to say yes. Coaches have a way of making it fun and your kid may view the sport more competitively than you think

All clubs manage yield, knowing not everyone who gets an offer will accept. This is NBD, and not a problem at all. In fact, I suspect clubs will like it. Crowds, interest, and foot traffic are all a net positive, and they get a chance to change your mind, even if you think that is not possible.

OP. Has nothing to do with thinking little of them (I honestly know nothing about them except that they're nearby), just expect my kid will want to play on the same team as his best friend. But I figured the experience could be useful, there's a small chance he'd want to play elsewhere if offered and if not, we'd get a feel for other clubs in case he wants a change down the road. Otherwise, worthwhile only because he loves to play any chance he gets.

Personal opinion. Going with absolutely zero intention of even considering an offer just takes up space and time in a tryout that is probably overcrowded anyway. As a previous coach who had to deal with tryouts it's hard enough to run a tryout and having people there who have no desire on being selected so you can get free training in selfish. Now, if you are even remotely considering the club now and in the future, or maybe want to see what else is out there, then that is way more acceptable. Just be respectful of the coach if contacted with an offer so he can move on down the line.

I don’t really care about all that. I just deny the offer within the 48 hours.

I think its fine if you go to the tryouts but then immediately after the tryout email the coach and say you took another offer.

Yes

I do it and have been doing it for years. Good experience for when you do want to switch. And yes, it's a free soccer session. Just be quick to reject the offer if you get one.

Go for it. They will either see it as a challenge and want to get better or decide it might not be for them.
