Glad it all went smoothly, OP. The scheduling of these things is such a pain, especially when you don't want to have to tell everyone in your life about what's going on.

The clinic told us my spouse was required to stay in the parking lot (for emergencies, they said). It was the hottest part of summer so we decided she would go home for part of the wait, since home was just a few minutes away.

The absolute worst thing that would happen is they call and say you are ready and he says "went to get gas be back in 10 min" and then shows up and calls them to being you down. There is no issue

OP here, thanks for all the replies. I think we will just have my husband and child drop me off, run to daycare to drop off my son, then husband come back and sit in the parking lot. My clinic said that they want him there in the parking lot the whole time, but how will they know? We have to be at the clinic before daycare is open, I asked about later appointments and this was the only option.

We had a similar issue and I was freaking out!!

The main issue was we only both needed to overlap so he could give a sample. Otherwise they wouldn’t have cared if he stayed.

We ended up leaving the kids with a trusted friend. The clinic absolutely said no kids allowed in the procedure area (obviously).

I don't think they will care where your husband is until they're ready to start the procedure. Can he drop you off at the curb and quickly drop off older sibling then come back? Can you ask to be the last patient of the day?

Check with your clinic, but my husband came into the clinic with me, but then was able to leave to get coffee and then waited in the car to be COVID safe (they allowed one additional person in the waiting room, but it seemed like an unnecessary risk to him). They took his cell phone number so they could phone him when I was in recovery.

Not Op, Wow read much?

My clinic also told my husband to wait in the car, but he got food last time no problem. I think if he is back within a hr of dropping you and available by phone the whole time it shouldn’t be an issue.

Does your partner/ride have to stay the whole time for your retrieval procedure? I believe they are not permitted inside - could they drop me off and leave for a bit and come back or is there really a good reason for them to wait in the car the whole time? My nursing team said that waiting was recommended, but trying to manage logistics with an older child - if my partner left for a bit to get our other child out the door to daycare that would be ideal. If leaving really isn't ok, then kid has to stay home that day, come with us and sit in the car for 3.5 hours or however long it takes for procedure and then be at home when I am recovering, none of which seem ideal. But, will do if necessary. Seems easier if they both drop me off and then my husband leaves quickly to take him to childcare? No local family and no friends know about our IVF and it would be hard for them to take him to school safely anyway if we have the car with car seat with us.
