I thought they were not considering any additional out of pocket testing?

Are your kids demonstrating above grade level work in school? They have to produce work in school that shows they need a significant amount of differentiation. We’re not talking about Kumon or your dinner table conversations.

i think the work samples is what put my child over. rejected year one. it was the type of work samples and narrative, otherwise it seems like a child that did well on a test.

Yes, I do. They don’t like anything that looks privileged.

I am not sure that this is true. It was considered the gold standard until last year. I think they are just under-emphasizing all scores and simply not looking at WISC. Fwiw, last year my kid had a 135 CoGat and was rejected, 135 WISC on appeal and rejected again.

The appeals form has WISC as one of the options for new data to appeal. Why would they have this still on the form if the committee won't consider it? I don't agree that the committee will ignore the score or it will hurt the chances. Seriously, why would it be on the form then!?!? FCPS is so confusing!!!

I think it's odd that people think the AARTs are making all these decisions. They obviously get all the info from the teachers. If you want to blame someone, blame the child's teacher. And blame FCPS for deciding that the most subjective part of the application is the most important!

Usually 1 to 2 weeks but it can be longer in the peak times. They used to say that if you get the WISC at GMU they would accept it after the appeal deadline. I don’t know if that is still the case.

Appealing but not doing the WISC. I dont think they will look at it. I'd rather save my pennies and write a compelling letter.

I will be appealing. My son already had a 99% percent on his WISC. He is in grade 3, perfect GBRS, all 4s, 128 Cogat and 118 NNAT...I think the NNAT has held him back. BTW, the WISC did nothing for him. Last year he got rejected on appeal after taking as well. I spoke with someone at FCAG and they also told me it appeared as if the WISC was entirely discounted, because they aren’t considering outside testing in light of the whole EQUITY thing. So you can take it, but likely, it will not be considered. I will be figuring out better work samples I guess... But I don’t have much hope at this point.

NNAT 134, GBRS don't know, DRA 28. We are appealing and DD has WISC scheduled for the end of April. I hope we'll get the results in time.

DC got 137 for NNAT report cards all 4s and DRA 28. GBRS was 4 FO with raving comments, which is confusing how none of the ratings got a CO. We had already submitted a parent questionnaire w/ the initial application, so can't use it as new material. Anyway, we'll do a WISC to appeal. If the WISC result isn't over 130, we'll leave it alone and DC can try again next year. Who else is appealing, what were your DC NNAT & GBRS, and will be doing a WISC?
