Occasionally. But many are in that position because they were dragged into it because nobody else was willing to make the commitment and do the work. A very needed and unappreciated position. We begged ours to continue each year.

That sounds really weird. My son is not on an elite team, just a mid level one, and we have never seen anything like that. There was one crazy dad who texted the coach a bunch of "suggestions" that involved getting rid of kids from our team mid-season, and replacing them with kids currently on a lower team (he copied several parents, including me, mysteriously). But the coach appropriately ignored the text and pretended it never happened, and everyone moved on with their lives.

Nope. My kids are at two different Clubs—neither is FCV. Frankly, I’ve seen it at just about every Club.

It’s a running joke between me and my kids. Driving to game- my teen will joke about how Coach likes his coffee and we should stop at Starbucks for him or it’s lunch we should grab him Popeyes’s. My 15-year old has a good sense of humor about it now. 13-year old is still in the frustration stage.

My husband and I give running commentary watching the theatrics and dad’s major brown nosing. Should we give him a tissue to wipe that sh@t off his nose? It’s shameless.

But—kids by HS start getting embarrassed by this if they aren’t total snowflakes/helicoptered...and will get a ribbing from teammates.

These are the same dads who hosted bday parties, stays at their beach house, hosted exchange students (from coaches country) None of us were surprised when the two kids were "picked" for National training centers. My oldest is U16, youngest U13. We suffered at some Clubs where the parents currying favor were at insane levels.

It hasn’t stopped. Both teams have a dad that has self-appointed him assistant coach and in charge of the Coach’s refreshments—-even handing them out during the game.

We arrived early to the U13 game where “Coach” dad was giving real Coacj his assessment of the team and how they play and where kids should play. Of course, with his kid (not even a top 5-8 player on team) as starring role.

And this sh@t actually works. Kid starts every game—though usually pulled out after 15 min for better player that plays rest of game. But it does a psych # on kids when they see these kids with kiss @ss dads be the 1 player to move up or start on first team even when they aren’t one of the top players.

It is less so on elite teams—but to my dismay it still happens.

Makes me laugh too since so many of these dads never played the game or did so at a low level. I have to sit here as a D1, National club team player, Gatorade state player and bite my tongue.

I’m not paying $3k/year for my kid to be coached by dipsh@t Coach dad.
