My parents live near a major sports venue site and often those events have luxury vehicles that are used to drive the athletes around during the event, and they are then sold at a huge discount. They've bought at least two vehicles like this that they never would have looked at if they paid full price.

Sounds ideal -- as PP said, people aren't rough on the courtesy vehicles. They're using it for a day or two while their own car gets worked on.

Not with a luxury vehicle, but we bought a 4Runner that had been driven enough by the dealership manager that they couldn’t sell it as new. They detailed it and threw in an extended warranty.

Most people who use a courtesy vehicle are just driving back and forth to work and their kids’ soccer games.

We have done this. No problems. Off-lease cars are a great idea, especially low millage ones. For 6 months as a courtesy loaner, vs a rental car at Hertz (just an example) is most likely very different. More likely a manager drove the car home at times and or few people drove it, but less likely wrecked anything mechanical for that short of time.

I have done this and it is a GREAT deal. Low mileage, perfect service record (and everything documented), still under warranty, plus usually has upgrades that would otherwise be hard to find on a late model used vehicle. I would not hesitate to do this again.

I remember my uncle milking cows every morning and then his wife churning it to make butter. I still buy my butter in a store.

Just because a previous generation did something a certain way, doesn't mean that we have to carry on in the exact same way.

This is my DH’s purchase model of choice. His last 2 cars have been bought this way. No issues and the dealer extends the warranty so you are actually protected longer in our case (not that we’ve needed it, knock on wood.)

I wouldn’t unless it was a big discount.

The price is reasonable, all the options I want, clear CarFax, but has been used as a rental/courtesy loaner by the dealership for 6 months. Has 4000 miles. BMW SUV. Looking for advice, or if I should pass on this. I don’t mind used, but the rental history worries me. Also anyone know how much further you can negotiate off the listed internet price these day? Thanks.
