those are hard styles if you have actually thick hair.
Then do a braid, or just pull back the top part, or get it cut/styled in a way to make it more manageable (layers and thinning). If your hair is very thick and heavy and you can't at least pull it partially back, it's probably too long or not sufficiently shaped.

It really depends on the individual and their overall look. My late 40s BFF has long, thick, straight hair and it is inoffensive, but totally blah. Other same-age friends with similar hair have thrown in a few long layers and done subtle highlights/balayage and it looks much more youthful.

Is it possible that you could cut a few inches off and yet really basically have the same style? In my opinion most hair looks best professionally a ittle shorter than what you are doing but this does not mean you have to go short. It's a matter of degree...I know she wears wigs (and she's one if the most beautiful women) but I like this length on Jaclyn Smith and think it can be professional as well.

It really depends on how it is styled, or how you present yourself overall. I've known lots of women in their 40s with long hair who can pull it off. But usually their hair is well styled and cared for, and the hair isn't so long it gets in their way.
In some professional settings, hair that is long and loose will always look a little unprofessional -- it won't look right in an office where everyone wears suits all the time or anywhere that cleanliness and order are highly valued. Also, if your hair tends to shed, either put it up or cut it shorter. No one wants to be finding long hairs around their workplace, and everyone will know it's you.
