I had to give up caffeine because it’s a trigger.

OP here. I have migraines with aura, and this is definitely not that. My auras are always visual, and although they sometimes include some random numbness, an aura wouldn’t continue for 4,5,6+ hours like this does. I ahve also never had an aura without a migraine, although my son does sometimes.

How old are you?

Aura symptoms can change.

My numbness can last hours (as many as 8-12) if I don’t get meds into me quickly enough.

That is a classic cross allergy response: you are allergic to certain pollens and your body thinks the fruit are the same thing.

OK. Do not consume caffeine until you speak with a doctor, OP! The best thing would be to make an appointment with an allergist and get tested. Skin tests are the most accurate (they will prick your skin and see if there's a little swelling there), bloodwork to measure IgEs not so much. This very much sounds like an allergy.

Yikes. Ok. Guess I’m calling my doc on Monday.

Could it be related to your cortisol level?

That sounds dangerously close to anaphylactic allergies, OP. You should consult a doctor before consuming any more caffeine.

Has this happened to you with caffeinated sodas or black teas containing caffeine? If you. have consumed such things recently and they didn't trigger similar symptoms, do you think you could be reacting to another ingredient in your coffee?

Agree completely. I've never heard of a coffee allergy but what is happening to you sounds a lot like an allergic reaction. I would go in for allergy testing.

Are you pregnant or nursing by chance? That makes it harder for your body to clear caffeine so more stays in your system longer.

Nope, I’m female, but in my 40s and well past those years

Just me?
Great.

But seriously. If I exceed a very small caffeine threshold (like 6oz of coffee is fine, a Starbucks is not), my face and neck feel numb, my fingers and sometimes the sides of my feet feel tingly, etc. It takes hours to resolve completely.
What could that be?
