Maybe stop the checks - I defniitely would have given up after 10 days of screaming for over an hour. When I did it with my first it was like 3 days most 45 mins. We never did the checks though. When he was old I did follow Ferbers night weaning plan for nursing as well. It's important to remember night weaning and sleep training are different.

Thanks everyone. (OP) co-sleeping is not an option and neither is dropping the night feeds. I do think she’s overtired from not napping. We have to keep working at it.

You are letting your baby scream for one hour multiple time a night for several days? Sounds like he’ll for you and baby.

You should stop and co-sleep. I am anti sleep training because I think it’s selfish of the parents, but in your case I don’t think anyone is sleeping at all.

Unless there’s a medical reason not tonight when, I would not continue feeding overnight. It may be confusing your child that sometimes she wakes up and is supposed to go back to sleep, but other times she wakes up, gets to eat, and then has to go back to sleep. Dropping the overnight feeding may help so she knows each time she wakes up she needs to go back to sleep and not be waiting around to see whether or not she’s getting milk.

PS: By the way, it is a typical pattern.

You can make the analogy to deciding whether to take the stairs or elevator, which you usually do. You push the button and wait, but no elevator. The button is lit, but you push it again. If you get really impatient, you might push it hard, multiple times, before you decide to do the stairs instead.

In changing habits, there is often a ramping up of the old behavior before the old habit changes to a new norm. It doesn't just happen with sleep training, but it can throw you off if you don't expect it.

I might try full extinction. Ferber visits just made my son mad and made him cry harder and longer.

It doesn't work for all kids... That said, with such short naps, she may just be in an overtired cycle. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but an you hold her for at least one nap and see if she'll sleep longer? If you can get her a little more daytime sleep, maybe she'll feel better at night and train easier.

I have a good sleeper and a terrible sleeper. It's innate. There's so little you can do. I'm sorry. My bad sleeper still wakes up at night at 2. My good sleeper sleeps 16 hours a day and never needed to be sleep trained.

Just wait her out, co sleep, try a different method, anything it takes. It's brutal, I'm sorry.

WTF! It worked for my older child at the same age - by the third night, she was going to sleep herself and going back to sleep easily after mid-night feedings.

Naps are easier but they’re so short! Mostly 25 minutes or less.

What should we do?
