Nanny here.

1. The schedule needs to be sacrosanct until this is solved.
2. Nanny needs to not hold her at naptime. She can sit on the floor or in a chair right next to the crib. The toddler can reach through the crib bars to her, and she can reach through as well.
3. The white noise machine should be turned on as soon as they go in the room to get ready, that way it’s background noise, not an indicator to fight.
4. I do “Eyes closed, mouth closed, body still.” As long as that happens, I’ll read or sing quietly. It pauses immediately when the child moves, speaks, or opens their eyes. If the child is tired, they will fall asleep if they’re still, quiet and not looking at anything.

Please remember that 1-2 year old children only need 11-14 hours of sleep per age. If your toddler sleeps 12 hours per night, they really may not need a nap or only 30-45 minutes. Also, if they’re sleep needs are being met overnight and they’re only lightly napping, and outside movement is likely to wake them up.

If you want to push for a longer nap, the nanny needs to do a combination of enough physical and intellectual activities before lunch, that way your child is tired enough to sleep.

What about a little cot for naps. Easier than transferring to a crib. The nanny can stay beside her on the floor read stories to start and pat her to sleep as needed.

What do you do differently on the weekends to get her to nap more easily?

Can she do CIO at nap? Do the nap time routine, then in crib, light off and door closed. Sound/music on if needed. Might take a bit but holding her for her nap sounds very exhausting each day.

I don’t know what to do because I am the only one who seems to be able to get my daughter to nap in her crib.

Bedtime is not a problem for us, and 99 percent of the time our daughter sleeps 12 hours all night.

Are you at home with the nanny?

Yes we are both working from home. We try to stay out of sight as much as possible.

This is your issue here. She does not want the baby to cry so that it does not reflect poorly on her. She does not want to let the baby cry so that it won't interrupt your work.

She also needs to be consistent with nap time and that is a factor as to why she's not napping, but the real reason is that nanny does not want to let the baby cry for the reasons above.
