Also, make sure your thyroid levels aren’t just “normal”, but prime for conceiving...there can be a big difference and lots of docs don’t seem to know the difference/pay attention. (The RE most definitely will)

What are the pills you are referring to?

DP, but probably clomid. Makes you ovulate more than one egg. OBs prescribe it, but REs usually couple it with an IUI as a first line of treatment if your tests are normal (i.e. your tubes are clear, your ovarian reserve is normal and no obvious sperm issues)

Thanks, good to know! I have only done the ovarian reserve and hormone tests so we will see what happens when we test DH sperm and my tubes.

I would just consult with an RE first.

Agree that you should not waste time with an OB. The RE can give you the same pills, but they will do tests to make sure that the pills make sense with your particular diagnosis.

Do you have an OBGYN? that is how it starts. You try some pill first and then if you want you get a referral to a fertility clinic.

Go right to an RE. I'd just call Shady Grove back and make an appointment.

Agree that an RE is the place to start. Personally I went to GW MFA and saw Dr Humm -- she was great with my complete ignorance of the process when I started, but I'm sure whoever you see at SGF will be good too.

I can't make suggestions for treatments for you since in my case there was no doubt it was a male factor issue but I just want to wish you the best of luck! Hope things work out for you!

I am surprised SGF told you to wait a year, but I would reach out to them again (or another RE). It takes a few months to get a consult and then get all of your testing done, so I think you should go right to an RE, unless you need to see your PCP to get a referral for insurance purposes.

DH and I have been trying for a year with no success. I've had my levels checked as well as genetic testing. I reached out to SGF after 6 months and they told me to wait a year.

I'm kind of clueless in where we go from here - should we see our PCP first? Do we go straight to an RE or a fertility clinic? I want to make sure we get the proper testing done.

Thanks in advance for any advice on how to get started. The knowledge online is overwhelming and I'd like to hear from those in DC who have been through this on best course of action.
