This may be the most bizarre question I've ever seen on DCUM and I've been on here 16 years.

Ps.. OP, California has the same chain stores as we here, so Staples and any copy place will do.

Illustrating. this is the paper cutting machine they will use: ONE CUT!!



Then just spiral bind. If the cover is too thick for the machine you might just make a card stock copy of it and bind with it that way...

Call any copy place you can find. Start with Staples, best yet if you have time go with your book and tell them what you need.

Ask if they have a professional cutter to cut rims of paper.

Then take your book there and ask to shave off the back. This requires about quarter inch or so cut, they can find the perfect place where to cut not to go too deep and only cut off the glue that holds the book.

It takes ONE SLICE of the cutter. It is like a guillotine thingy.

One cut is really inexpensive and they charge you per amount of pages.

Subsequently you can right there ask to spiral bind the book for you. There are few binding styles to choose and some will lay more flat then others. Some are ideal for thick books. They can make holes for you and install the spine.

The cut might cost around three bucks or so give or take couple.

The spiral binding can add few more.

Don't do it at home, it is not worth it. They can do a beautiful job and you decide what you want. Not expensive and super useful.

I've have this done many times at Staples. It's fairly inexpensive and makes it so much easier to use workbooks. Any place that does copy and printing should be able to accomplish this task.

I suppose a table saw would work.

Does anyone know of a place that will cut off the spine of workbooks? We have a lot of books that don't open on a table properly and so I want to put spirals on them for school. They are mostly around half an inch thick.

Do places like Fedex have a machine to do this since they do the spirals there too? Any other ideas?
