I really don’t understand who will live in those apartments. People move to mount rainier to get a house with a yard close-in.

Do folks like living here? Looks like a cute place.

Taxes are on the high side, but it's very safe and it seems the city is on the upswing (only been here 2 yrs). There's a new development being built in downtown http://ifggroup.us/project/3200-rhode-island-ave-mount-rainier-md-20712/

Yeah I wouldn’t count on it. But the new restaurant is great!

The elementary school seems good and they’re building a brand new middle school. We’re white, and the thing that worries is me is that the elementary schools are reasonably representative of the diverse community, but by high school nearly all the white kids are gone. Obviously though this is not a problem specific to this neighborhood. I feel like we’re about where I think we would be in DC unless we lived in Janney or similar zone, which would be something like 2.5x more housing cost. Just crossing the border into NE DC raises the housing costs by several hundred thousand. The housing savings vs Silver Spring are also very significant. I understand that people will often prefer to just pay more for a house vs tuition because it’s easier to finance, but since our house is so much less expensive we’re able to have a lot more money invested in the market, etc so we’ll see what happens by the time our kids are high school aged. PG also has TAG programs that may be serving too much as escape hatches for affluent, highly educated families and we’ll see what happens with that.

There are so many little kids around here though. So. Many.
