What kind of side effects are you anticipating? With a sore arm, you and the DH can tag team the kids.

Op I called out sick due to side effects from my second dose. I had a massive headache , was nauseous, and extremely fatigued. I'm an RN and couldn't have done my job safely. But I could have parented safely. Ds just watched TV while DS was working and snacked more than he usually does. That way I could just veg and nap. Your nanny was probably in a similar spot.

If you want to pay her for standing by that's fine. But honestly I think the risks of both you and dh being completely unable to parent are low.

OP, I would be fine being on stand-by. These are unusual times. And I did it when my employer was nearing her due date with change #2 before.

i highly doubt you will both have side effects bad enough to keep you from taking care of your children.

I honestly don’t get it. Just book her for the hours. If you end up feeling fine catch up on laundry.

I would do this. Because of the pandemic I spend most of my free time doing not much of anything. For $100 I’ll do not much of anything with my phone on.

Nanny here and of course I would standby for free. I’ve done it for two births already.

A thank you gift is always nice but not necessary.

That's some BS. Seriously? No either such it up or get it on different days. That's a big request and unless you are paying $1000 for over time, weekend, etc you are taking advantage of her.

Our wonderful nanny, who has never once called in sick in three years, was out for two days after her 2nd covid vaccine. DH and I are both scheduled to get our first and 2nd doses on Fridays and are worried we might have similar side-effects.

Would it be unfair to ask nanny to be on standby for those weekends, especially the 2nd shot weekend in case we need her? We’d pay time and a half if we do need her but what should we pay for stand-by?

I know our nanny and she will say “nothing” if we ask her.
