Engineer, 130k, BS and MS from a state university. This is actually pretty low considering I have more than 10 years of experience, but I like my job.

PP here. We both have Ivy degrees that helped with getting our first law firm jobs, and then made the move to govt from there. DH is a stellar lawyer, I have good interpersonal skills (not that they are shining through on this post!)

34, MA government job gets me close to 6 figures but then I have residual income from a rental property I bought when I was 26 which bring me to well over 100k.

I was able to buy the property because I was fine living in a cramped windowless basement cooking on hotplates and out of a dorm size fridge for well beyond grad school years in order to save for a down payment to a house. And then another one, which is where I live now.

Lawyer, so I have a JD. Have been a firm lawyer and a government lawyer. I'm not a "vision" person but I can execute if given even a vague idea of where you want to be. Good at problem solving.

I've had a series of supportive bosses who wanted me to succeed. Not all of them, but enough to help me get here.

Sorry — here’s the rest of your answer:

Me — BA in International Politics & a language the feds like; MA in Political Science

DH — BA in History; MA in Political Science w/ a concentration in applied statistics

For me, it really helped to go to the undergrad program I did. They place extremely well into the fed gov’t. For him, it really helped to take the stats classes he did, and to then teach himself SQL and things like that.

What type of work do you do and how many degrees do you have? What helped you get there?
