I test drove the Kona (SEL Limited) and it felt...cheap. OK car but very little pick up and the finishes looked like a rental car’s would. Also smaller than I was expecting.

I have a Crosstrek.

It needs *AT LEAST* 100 MORE horsepower. It’s that underpowered.

Subaru claims it’s 148hp. But it’s a very heavy car for it’s size, weighing nearly as much as a Jeep Wrangler 2-door soft top.

Subaru is offering a more powerful engine now, but it’s still well under 200hp, and even that will be inadequate. The car really (desperately!) needs a turbocharger, but then you’d need a manual transmission, because the CVT automatic isn’t able to handle the amount of power the car really needs.

And that’s a shame. Because the car is wonderfully balanced and handles very, very well. Steering is a bit numb (as in all cars with electric power steering) but it goes around corners well and could be driven very aggressively... if only it had enough power to enjoy its handling abilities.

But it doesn’t.

Trying to decide between the following:

Hyundai Kona
Subaru Crosstrek
Nissan Rogue Sport
Mazda CX-30
Kia Niro

Wife has a Nissan Rogue and I want something smaller than that. Giving my 2021 Honda Civic to my son. Thanks.
