LCPS, ACPS and APS all kept the traditional spring break schedule and published their calendars before FCPS. If anything FCPS should align to us.

FCPS was the first to propose the calendar with extra holidays and then backtracked before approving it.

...and the reason they backtracked is because they could not close on those 4 hand-picked religious holidays for operational reasons, because there was no data to support closing on those days. What secular reasons did your superintendent and school board come up with for adding them to your calendars?

This. It’s interesting to follow what is going on right now in FCPS and how that will affect the calendars in other districts, if it does.

If that's the rationale, good. Unlink all the holidays on all the calendars and be done with it.

Either way as the last to adopt their calendar they should have aligned with the others, or not, but I don’t think it’s reasonable for everyone else to change.

I don’t get what you are looking for, OP. All FCPS did was say they couldn’t have exams and major events on certain religious holidays, which was already the case. This decision was a huge slap in the face to religious minorities in FCPS, and is not something APS or any other school system should emulate.

No, FCPS didn’t propose it. A group of community members did and for some reason thought they had the authority of the School Board.

FCPS went and did it owns thing without considering other districts. Lots of staff in surrounding counties have kids in FCPS and this will be a problem next year.

I’m not happy about different spring breaks, but a little happy my school has all of these holidays off now and my kids need to go into FCPS. I finally have a day off alone now and then.

Agree. FCPS is a hot mess.

I wish they could. I like FCPS's way of saying we recognize all holidays and won't have tests etc but let's not have a thousand days off. It's annoying to start a full week earlier but still get out at the same time. I wish they would all unlink spring break from easter too.

Yes it is too late to change it. It was adopted 3 months ago. Both counties have good and bad things about their calendar.

In APS spring break is still around Easter. It’s mid April next year so at least it will be warmer.

Did they finally unlink spring break from easter?

That I can get behind.
