DP, but it’s often called having kids who are “not very independent”. May not be the case for your family, of course.

A contrary opinion here. I don't find it odd, I guess, but I definitely find it sad. We also have four kids, all are out of college, and all four have settled right here. We're all very close, and it's awesome.

My mom has an uncle who has three kids. My uncle lived on Long Island and his three adult kids live in New Jersey, MA, and Europe. My mother always talked about how mean that uncle was incredibly cruel to them, and look how he drove his children away.

Well, my mom had two kids and her two adult kids both live across the country from HER in California. Hmmmm ....

Your neighbors may be waiting to see if their kids are going to settle there (vs live there for a few years and then move back) before your neighbors decide if they want to move out there too. Or maybe they are content to not live near their kids. Either way it is not weird.

I find it quite normal to wonder about the odds of this happening and feeling a bit sad that all your kids live so far away.

Surprisingly, my young adult DD has been happy to remain in Montgomery County. Me too.

You find it odd that people prefer California to Montgomery County, Maryland? Have you not been to California? I ask this as someone who is quite happy to live in Bethesda and who adores her adopted state.

CA is an ideal place to live and all the siblings are close. You sound like a busy body.

So what do you make of this?: We have lovely neighbors (in Montgomery County) who have four very bright and normal children. All four of them have gone to colleges in California and each has settled there post-college. I find it odd...
