I'm the one that fixed it myself using the RainX product from Amazon. It takes some time because you have to apply it several times in several steps and use a razor to scrape off excess but it's really not all that hard and the instructions that come with it tell you exactly what to do. A suction cup creates a vacuum to pull out all the air. You drop some drops of the filler material in and then you wait for it to dry. You scrape the excess off with the included razor blade. You can fill a couple more times. It's best to be used when it's hot because it dries faster (obviously it's cold now so you'll want your car in the sun at least). You don't have to watch it while it dries. Just go inside and so something else. I think I applied it three or four times and did it during the summer. There's a very tiny dot where it used to be. If your options are, replace the entire windshield or fill the chip, why not try filling it first? It's not like you can't still replace the windshield. You could also have a shop fill it (there are actually mobile services that will come to your house during the day).

You’re insane. I literally did it myself using a product I bought from Amazon.

If it’s a chip you can hire someone to fix it or you can do it yourself. I’ve always hired someone to fix the chips but last time I bought a kit from Amazon and it was easily repaired. Not 100% as good as the pros but I’d say it was 90-95% as good but it really wasn’t that hard.

Safelite. And your insurance may pay with a windshield exception. Geico paid ours no cost to us.

No. They will fill the chip. It won’t affect the integrity of the glass. It will also keep the chop from developing into a crack.

I had a rock chip the windshield of my brand new car about a year ago, and my insurance sent out Safelite to assess if it could be filled or had to be replaced. It was fillable, and the guy did it in about 45 minutes. I can see a small dot if I look really, really closely, but it's hardly noticeable, and insurance covered all of the cost.

You definitely didn’t use OEM glass. You used generic glass. Anyway, op call a windshield company they can fill it.

Get it sealed. Before it spreads. You wont even be able to see it.

A local car place will do it or Safelight or one of a dozen glass companies. It takes fifteen minutes. No need to call insurance though the repair companies will try and talk you into going that route.

You might be able to get the crack filled (less than $75).

If not, a new windshield will not cost $1k. We had our SUV windshield replaced for less than $300.

After owning my vehicle for 5 years my luck ran out. A pebble from a construction truck impacted my glass and now I have a tiny crack in the middle.

It’s giving me headaches because my eyes can’t focus on the rod with it. Am I fucced forever? Replacing it entirely is like $1000 after labor and idk what to do.
