It depends. If my health insurance is good through the rest of the month, I might take a few weeks off. My last transition, insurance was terminated on my last day of employment, so I was on eggshells the 6 days before my next start date.

My daughter took three days because her new job didn’t allow days off for three months. The pandemic was just starting. She ran around like crazy and got a lot of critical business and doctors appointments handled. Then the same week she started, the office closes and everyone was forced to telecommute.

I always take off 1-2 weeks between jobs. DH just started a new job and only took the Thursday and Friday before off. I don't get it either. Him taking longer would have been no concern financially but he didn't see the point.

Yeah I went right from one job to the next a year ago because I needed the money. We earn a good living but not such a good living I'd leave a week's worth of wages on the table. Anyway a year ago COVID was starting and all I could think about was how scared I was - having a week off then would have been a total waste.

I did say that I understand that some people can't afford it. But he makes 200K a year and is married to someone that makes more.
I gave him shit about it, but he said, he just likes to keep going...but then complains about working too much.

I try to schedule a few weeks in between because we can afford it, but there's no right answer. A friend of mine got laid off with 6 months severance, found a new job very quickly and asked for a start date that was 3 months later. I was so jealous (in a good way, happy for her)!

I took 6 months last year. I had an offer 2 days after being laid off, but knew I needed the break and wanted to renovate my new house. I would typically take a week or two, and that’s usually been tied to an event like a move, planned vacation, holidays, etc.

Why does anyone have to be wrong or right? It's a matter of personal finances, personal preference, and the preferences of the new company. Nothing to be "wrong" or "right" about.

There is no right or wrong; it's all personal preference.

A friend of mine just started a new job. He makes good money, but didn't even take a week off between jobs and never has. I don't get people like him. Perhaps during the pandemic it doesn't make that much sense to take off a week since you'll likely be stuck at home, but generally speaking, I've always taken a week or two between jobs.
I understand if you're living paycheck to paycheck but if you're making good money, why not take some time for yourself.
Am i wrong about this?
