The problem I have is that I do not have off-street parking so the day I get home with the new car I will need temporary tags to park on the street. However, because of COVID restrictions, I cannot simply drive straight to the DMV to get temporary tags. Does anyone know if there is anyway to get temporary tags in DC on the same day as purchase? There are title transfer service companies in MD that appear to offer same-day service to issue temporary tags for a fee (and then they take care of waiting in line at the MVA), but I don't see anyone offering the same service in DC so I assume DC DMV does not allow such third-party services. It seems my only option is to walk into the DMV for a temporary tag (which is not an option during COVID -- I recently had to take care of some in-person only business at the DMV and it took me weeks to get an appointment that was weeks away). Given the COVID timelines, I would have a car sitting on the street for 2 months (or more) without any sort of tags whatsoever. I am aware that DC has relaxed enforcement of expired registrations during COVID, but does that extend to non-existent registration?
Has anyone encountered and managed to crack the code on this problem?
You will get a temporary parking permit that you can print out and place on your dashboard. That should take care of the parking issue.
In the meantime, You will be driving without a license plate. Keep all documentation on you - title, proof of insurance, ID, temporary parking permit, etc.
