Too strict. He is more scarred by lack of interaction and normalcy at this point than by playing next to an unmasked kid. Stop making your kid anxious!

I have not seen any unmasked kids over 2 at the 4-5 silver spring playgrounds we go to. We go early or late (4:30+).

Aren’t masks required fir over age 2 in Virginia?

I think it's too strict but you get to make that decision for your family.

Most people don’t think masks are necessary on kids playing outdoors. So you are going to have to ease up on your anxiety or he is going to have a very long spring.

I think that both you are being way too strict, at the same time you seem to be handling it right for your own family.

Where are you going? I think you are in the wrong neighborhood. BUT - interestingly, I was driving my 9 year old the other day and he observed as we drove past a playground that there were too many kids in one area.

Places to look - church playgrounds might be a better bet as opposed to parks.

Folks masked in “dunking donut”? Hands washed?

Sorry for the typo. I meant community spread in the second paragraph

Too strict. The likelihood of him getting sick is slim. My child’s school lets children play unmasked on the playground. No cases at the preschool since they opened in July. All adults remain masked.

With the warmer weather you're going to see more and more people outside, and most of them will be unmasked.

For example, on my bike ride yesterday around my neighborhood I saw people outside, walking, sitting on porches, talking. No one was wearing a mask.

* if “neither” one is satisfied

I drive around my only 5 year old to find a nearby small outdoor playground that is either empty or have few kids that are masked. If either one requirement is satisfied, we just drive around and end up in dunkin donut to get a donut instead. On a few occasion, my son cried because I had to make him leave the playground immediately because some other kids showed up without masks at the playground. I understand why he cried, and he understand the reasons behind I had to make him leave (because of other unmasked kids). He is little that he still can’t help it out to cry, and I always take him other places to cheer him up a bit. He prefers a playground with masked kids OVER a playground with nobody. And other masked kids stay around to play even other unmasked kids shown up.

Do I handle it alright or am I too strict?
