Well, the schools were overcrowded to begin with. A big problem is that those who have left are generally from more affluent families. You know, the ones that contribute most of the resources to PTAs and such. APS is going to be a mess for a while!

Remind me to thank the union's generosity. Lost a year of learning, other districts, in other states stayed open. Europe stayed open. It wasn't important to unions and their lackeys though.

Being open 5 days a week and being “back to normal” are entirely different things. APS has always taught to the lowest level in each class. What is that going to look like next year when some of these kids have regressed so much?

Duran just said at the SB meeting that that was the goal for fall.

I really think the tide has turned against anything but fully opened schools in the fall.

From Biden's plan, I think it's really likely we'll be full 5 day in the fall. Speedier adult vaccinations, school testing money, and more.

Stay private for MS and come back for high school. It will be a lot of review and stagnation next year. It’s unclear if all these vaccinated teachers are even coming back.

I am curious about this as well. DC is a 7th grader. We jumped to private, and DC would really like to finish MS in APS. We plan to go back for HS. I'm trying to gauge how much of a disaster APS will be next year, even if it is open 5 days a week. If it doesn't go to 5, we've said it's not even an option, but even at 5, I think there will be a lot of learning loss. Plus budget cuts for MS activities and possible teacher shortages ... on the other hand, DC really doesn't love the private.

Even if they’re back 5 days, they’re going to be playing catch up for at least 2 years. Better to stay in private.
