Quickly read Oh Crap and start again. Your child doesn’t know how to release urine on command! You need to catch her in the act, identify what she’s doing and get a couple drops in the potty. The book is an hour’s read and explains it all clearly.

I'd never heard of this oh crap book. I let him go naked and lept up with the insert for that ikea potty (the green and white one) to catch his pee. A few days later he walked himself over to the potty and peed in it.

Another vote for Oh Crap between 20-24 months. Can your kid consistently follow instructions ("put your toy in the basket")? If so, then go for it. We did make her sit on a schedule and used Youtube videos to get her to sit and relax (which worked better than bribes for us). But it was a short phase and we were totally out of diapers, night and day, before 24 months. Well worth it!

It also depends on what works for you. I didn't potty training my sin until he was moved to the 2s room at daycare because the toddler room didn't have toilets whereas the 2s did. There's no magic better for everyone time to do it.

We did potty training at 20 months, following the method in the "Oh Crap" book. Worked pretty well, first day (really first week) expect lots of accidents (but visibly fewer on day 4 than day 1).
20 months is about right age for most toddlers. Waiting just makes potty training harder and extends the time needed.

Buy oh crap book and just do it! I completely agree that there is no "readiness" cue. The only cue you need is that your kid wants to please you. 2 and 3 year olds don't want to please you the way 1.5 year olds do, so I think the earlier the better. Historically kids trained a lot sooner than 3, which is when my mom was told to train when we were little. I think the longer you wait, the more issues that can happen like constipation.
Also, just want to say that the first day is always hard. Lots of accidents. Luckily the weather is so fab- have your kid run around naked on the deck with a potty out there.

Another vote for Oh, Crap with bribes. We potty trained exactly at 22 months and it’s wonderful having a potty trained toddler. He’s 2.5 now and hasn’t had one accident since the first two weeks and uses the big toilet for pooping.
Definitely read the book and plan ahead for the first week. Don’t go back.

I did it at 18 months without oh crap books. Be prepared to do a lot of laundry. Don't be above bribing. Find your kids thing: 1 mini m&m, a sticker, or a chart. Good luck! The key is consistency and positivity.

My DD trained at about 15 months but only because her 3 year old brother was training and she just followed along. I do not really have any advice because I did nothing special to initiate it. One day before her bath she just said "I pee" and sat on the potty and peed. Then I started to hear 'No diapers" so we went with it. Pretty clear signs of readiness there. Good luck!

And I know you said you don’t want to read a bunch of books, I agree you definitely don’t need to read a bunch - just one. It’s short and easy and will give you everything you need. You can even just skim it on kindle. You can skip the early paragraphs convincing you that you can do this at an early age since you’re already convinced

You can do this if you want but you need to read oh crap in my opinion. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend doing it just based on tips from here. Read oh crap and follow the steps

I highly recommend this. I kitty trained each of my three kids from 18-20 months using the oh crap potty training method. The book takes less than a weekend to read and will be all you need to easily and quickly potty train. Good luck! Hope you go for it!

My best friend just potty trained her daughter at 26 months, really wished she had done it sooner, and believes my DD can do it now (DD is 19 months). I told her that I have no idea if she's ready, she won't understand if I tell her to keep her underwear dry, etc., and she said that the whole constantly assessing if your kid is "ready" thing is an older school of thought and to just do it...and now I really want to try!
