Then when does it end? We may never reach "herd immunity".

Once kids can get vaccinated.

If nobody is dying or getting hospitalized from Covid a lot of restrictions will be lifted.

In VA, the mask mandate is for ages 5+. I definitely don't think 2 year olds will be required in the Fall. But I do think the 5+ range still will be.

I'm not sure about DC or other areas. My guess is whatever the mandate is now will still be the mandate this fall.

Good news - kids don't really care and adapt very fast.

Midwest PP. Our school also has a toddler class, where masks have not been required all year. No evidence of any spread or cases among the toddlers, even though other members of the school community have had COVID.

My kids' Midwest private school has been requiring masks all year for ages 3 and up without issue. The teachers got their second round of vaccines last week, but the schools just reiterated this week that masking will continue for the foreseeable future. Our state still has a mask mandate in place, including for schools.

Yeah exactly. Then it would never end if technically someone could pass it on to someone else.

We already know that transmission through kids, especially very little kids, is very rare. That’s probably why so many daycares have stayed open with little to no outbreaks between kids.

So far about 10% of the population has been vaccinated and they are saying that 70% means herd immunity is reached so let’s just hope that by the end of the summer that happens

My brand new 2 year old has been wearing one for 2 months now. Her school made them start practicing at 23 months so by 2 they had it down. If they couldn’t wear it all day they couldn’t attend daycare. This is DC based center. Your child will survive.

I have asked myself this question but also wondering when they will let us back inside the school. I have never seen my daughters classroom. I really want to see her interact with her friends.

Good question. Also following this thread. Hopefully some doctors or health/medical professionals will chime in.

Following this thread at my DD is about to turn 2 and may be returning to daycare in the next couple of months. Trying to decide how hard to push the mask wearing. She doesn't regularly wear one now, though we try practicing intermittently. She'll wear it for at most a minute before getting annoyed and ripping it off...

Our school in Virginia has never required masks for the 2 and 3 year old classrooms. The pre-K kids do wear them, as some of them are turning 5 (which is the age when masks are mandated in VA.)

Most adults and older teens should be vaccinated by the fall, so hopefully case numbers will drop to the point that mask mandates can be lifted (or loosened) for small children who aren't at serious risk of COVID infections.

I think it will depend on how effective the vaccines are in stopping community spread, hospitalizations and deaths. And that will depend on how the variants behave which is hard to predict.
