This. If your DC has aspirations for playing on they need to be the number one GK on their team who plays against the better teams

Most of the best boys teams don't play ECNL.

Most split time, u19 ECNL keepers usually there is a Number 1 keeper and a back up and they may not switch

100% this or they are playing teams with bad offenses. They didn't comment on the level of play (ECNL, GA, etc.).

it could also be a streak of winter friendlies and a tournament or two where much stronger than the competition. It could also be just dumb luck- DD splits halves on her team and one games the other keeper will give up two and she won't see a shot and vice versa. Most games are low enough scoring that she may have a streak like that. I don't keep track and if she does, she's not sharing

I didn't think of this scenario when I responded before, but completely right. My daughter was splitting time at a prior club, and the defense played like crap for the first half consistently. She would see a dozen shots by the half. Other keeper came in and saw slow rollers and single digits the rest of the game. Defense was all warmed up I guess lol. Obviously, my daughter gave up more goals than the other.

Most ECNL clubs I have seen carry two keepers at all ages (U13 and up). Any coach worth his salt will know to split playing time pretty much down the middle except for championship games. To do otherwise messes with a GK's confidence level. At our club, there are times when games are split at half time, and there are other times where they alternate full games.

My perspective: it depends on the ECNL club you're in. A stronger one may have two GKs at U13, whereas a smaller (player pool) may only have one up until U17. Locality matters; if you're DD is interested in being a GK for an ECNL team, do several sessions for two ECNL clubs near you. You'll see different employment of GKs in game; BRYC teams switch at halftime, Richmond has switched at halftime, Loudoun has switched at halftime, etc.

Couple quick questions:

When do ECNL teams start carrying two goalies? U15ish?

And when they do, do they usually split game time, or is there a clear #1 and clear #2?
