It’s jewelry and like a car. Outside of the 5cs and distinct traits, the means doesn’t justify the end. Diamond rings the profit margin is based on sentiment and ego alone and intentionally built astronomically into price.
Unless you are indeed Idris Elba. Then I would accept it with a security team to guard me, and I’d say you’re being cheap. Hollywood makes an argument for wasteful and frivolous spending, to imply immeasurable wealth, increase your market value and public appeal, and thus your demand.

OP here. It wasn’t a brag. A friend is planning to propose soon an asked how much I spent and where I bought it. He told another friend and they both said I was crazy for spending that much on a ring.
