Our K student had a great first day! They are outside for lunch and snack. I didn’t ask how much they used iPads but did ask how he did specials as we were told that would be virtual. He had art and said his teacher used her computer to show art class on the smart board vs each kid’s ipad) which sounds like a great way to do it so they could really do art together, not have the screen so close, no headphones, etc. Our school has also been using packets since the start of school so I am not concerned about too much screen time on those in person days. They had us send in scissors, pencil box, math manipulatives, etc.

He was exhausted but happy at the end the day - just like his older sibling was after first day of K in a normal year. Yay!

That’s not what I meant. My point is that there are just a few vocal teachers/parents like that but it seems like a lot when we are stuck at home. IRL everyone seems so happy and excited to be back. It was very joyous.

It was great! He said it was a lot of fun and the highlight was recess. They barely used the iPads (as reported by a 6 year old, so grain of salt there). Even the bus was perfectly on time.

We all need to step away from social media/DCUM and remember most parents and teachers are not fear mongers trying to make school seem like prison. I CANNOT wait until we get 5 days. Walk up drop off took about 15-20 minutes (the car lane was very short — I think everyone wanted to walk up on day 1). It was very smooth, even with this morning’s broken link issue. Our son was very nervous walking in to school alone, but the school was very encouraging. He had fun throughout the day, and we were really encouraged that the school took them outside to play 3x (morning and afternoon, plus lunchtime recess — we had thought it would just be during lunch). My son said they did dream box when he first arrived, as other kids got to class, and Lexia while they were doing dismissal. Otherwise, the only screen time was his one special. He is exhausted but said he was excited for day 2.

Overall, our school seemed to do a wonderful job and we are really pleased with the read out on day 1. I hope others had a good day too!
