Small sided pick up games with no coaches, etc. That’s a great way for a kid to fall in love with the sport, have fun, gain confidence, etc.

If they are more serious about improving, then have them self-train. Look at Techne or YouTube, etc. Juggling, dribbling, passing, etc. Additionally, have them watch one Euro pro game a weak. Let them mentally get away from normal team practices, formality, etc. Maybe one camp to learn some drills and techniques. Good luck!

Jeez!! Can the kids just play for fun without over analyzing it. I don’t think anyone thinks 3v3 is going to get them a scholarship. It’s for fun and love of the game. Nothing more. If you think you kids will have fun go for it.

Great idea. Cannot wait for my kids to get scholarships to pay 3v3 at UVA.

Have fun doing whatever you are doing, but this is the secret sauce. Maybe not 3v3 but small sided. 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, 8v8. Pick up of any ages and numbers. Have you ever watched top U14, U15s, U16s, U17s, play 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, 8v8? They are flying. hundreds of touches. Hundreds of decisions, dozens of 1v1s. Dozens of transitions. Dozens of mistakes. You get a group of kids of equal ability or better and just have them play small sided, intense games. ...that's what will get your kid to the next level. 11v11 becomes easy. To each their own though.

agree to each their own. i just love the parents of kids who play 3v3, who post on social media about their kids traveling to these national events for 3v3. they conveniently forget their kid is average at best when it comes to 11v11, and none of the best players play in these tournaments. so yeah, keep doing what u r doing. its really making your kid a better player.

dont get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with kids having fun playing in these things, and maximizing touches on the ball is critically important to becoming a better technical player. but u still actually have to know how to play the game. i see a lot of bad habits in 11v11 games from kids that play a lot of these formal 3v3 tourneys and get specialized training for 3v3 or 5v5. pickup games = great. paying someone to train your kid how to win 3v3 = flushing money down the drain. but to each his own.

The 3v3 option looks great for kids. Staying active during summer and getting touches on the ball. You realize there’s more ways to train than just 11v11 on the field?
