The FCPS website has listed the math units that would be asynchronous since summer. It’s a county thing. Looks like some teachers are teaching it anyway.

One of my kids has actually had asynchronous lessons on those standards. The other has a teacher who is teaching them synchronously anyway. Check with your kids - they may have covered them.

Yep, our teacher is still covering them synchronously.

You can always decline to have your child take them. Ask the teacher for an opt-out form.

My child went in for the IAAT recently, and it was fine. We will probably have them take the Math 7 SOL, if offered for 6th graders. May opt out of language arts.

SOLs are more for the school than the kids. Unless you need one for MS math placement, it doesn't really benefit your child to sit for them.

I think I’m not surprised. I thought they shouldn’t get another waiver this year because they need data.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Students in grades 3-6 in our school will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests between April 26, 2021 to June 4, 2021.

The Virginia Department of Education requires students in grades 3-8 across the state to take the SOL tests. SOL tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills detailed in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Content areas that will be tested are shown for each grade level below:

Grade 3 Reading & Mathematics

Grade 4 Reading & Mathematics

Grade 5 Reading & Mathematics & Science

Grade 6 Reading & Mathematics

In November 2020, the Virginia Board of Education (VBOE) allowed school divisions to use performance assessments in lieu of the GR4 Virginia History SOL. Local alternative assessments are delivered as part of regular classroom instruction throughout the school year to measure student learning of the standards. No special appointments are needed for local alternative assessments.

Staff will schedule specific SOL testing dates for your child as the assessment window approaches. We will contact you with this detailed information as it is available.

If your child is attending virtually at the time of these assessments, we will provide opportunities to schedule in person SOL testing appointments. We will provide transportation for your child to take the SOL test at our school, as needed."
