COVID was already here in the US at that point. I've heard lots of speculating that the mysterious illnesses running rampant through schools last year may have included COVID as well as a bad strain of flu B.

I remember at one point in February, half my DC's K class was out. When I spoke to the teacher about catching up on stuff he missed, she was like "don't worry, half the class has been out." Some was flu, but ot other parents told me that they tested negative for flu.

Then again, all the anecdotes I've heard from parents whose kids were known to have had COVID were that the kids that age were basically asymptomatic (and my kids' school now tests weekly so we've had confirmed cases), so who knows?

My 4 year old has been in daycare since the summer and she's had 1 cold (negative for covid) and 1 coarse of strep throat, but it's way down compared to last winter. People are keeping their kids home if they have any symptoms (we did for both and got her tested) and with older siblings not going to in person school mostly it's cut way down on what other kids are bringing into daycare.

No, but then they rarely get sick.

My son and I do suffer from severe allergies, though, and I have to say, wearing a mask outside, and not going to school (where they can't control the levels of pollen) does help a bit!

Two bouts of stomach flu for my DD, both possibly caused by questionable food choices.

The year has made me realize that my boys have fairly significant allergies. The same is true for me. Even when we barely left the house, I was worried I have COVID almost every week. Each time I've been tested, it's negative. Fortunately, working from home, quarantining was not a problem. However, I've home to have a better understanding of my allergies, including the fact that when they are in full force, I almost feel feverish.

2 of my DDs had colds (w/negative tests) in September right after school started back in person but they're the only family members who have had any sort of illness since last February.

We all had a recent cold. There are some interesting graphs on prevalence of COVID-19 versus prevalence of influenza like illnesses and the viruses that cause the common cold (the other human coronaviruses, rhinoviruses, etc.).

It's not just masks and distancing contributing. After all, if that were the case then nobody would be getting COVID either. It also may have to do with competition between viruses and fewer people getting medical care: https://wtop.com/national/2021/02/amid-covid-19-pandemic-flu-has-disappeared-in-the-us/

Seasonal allergies and a one day stomach bug. Going to miss our unprecedented health streak.

Not only much as a sniffle. It’s been an added benefit since I had a baby six months ago and she’s never been sick. Had this been a normal year, you know her siblings would have given her something.

No, it’s the only upside to all of this!

Nope. I’m expecting several bouts of colds and ear infections if/when things are back to normal.

I am amazed that my kids have not been sick for an entire year. My kids are usually on/off sick taking turns getting one another sick all winter.

Of course one of my children is sick for the first time. I am trying not to worry.

Wondering how often other kids have been sick for the past year since the pandemic started.

We are always masked when we are out. I am obsessed with hand wipes and sanitizer. This child has tendency to chew on things.
