+1 his narration in the audiobook is great

The Book Thief is a good fiction choice. The voice actor is excellent

Also, if you want to be the clueless white suburban mom who doesn't understand anything, The Help is a great way to let your daughter know.

Love the Hitchhiker and Good Omens suggestions.

PG Wodehouse or Saki if you're feeling retro, but give a listen in advance because there are some terrible narrators out there.

Lindy West or David Sedaris essays are good for cal trips -- built-in stopping points.

I’m the Hitchhiker’s PP—love the David Sedaris suggestion—my 14yo would love him!

What kind of stuff do you both normally read?

If you’re into sci-fi or fantasy, my daughter and I enjoyed the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (read by Martin Freeman) and Good Omens.
