Can you tell me more? Only reason I’m going with the GLA is size.

Because for the same price you can get a very well equipped Honda. It’s a poser car.

If it's just the two of you, I would look into hatchbacks and wagons. The Subaru Impreza or Outback, VW Golf, or a Volvo wagon would be my preference. I know you said you want to sit up higher, but that always means bulky. Like even the smaller SUVs like RAV4s and Forresters are so huge these days -- the new Forresters are basically full size SUVs.

You get so much room from a wagon and because they are smaller, you can get a lot of the comfort items for less than even a base model SUV.

I’ve heard lots of good things about the CX5. If there’s a Japanese car to choose it’d be this I’d test drive.

This. I normally drive a mercedes, which is quite fast, but I had a cx 5 once as a rental, and I really liked it!

I have an X1 and it's a great size but not really zippy (especially compared to a GTI) and I would not get another one. I'd get a Macan if you have the budget for it.

I'd get a Toyota RAV4 Prime, with a range of 40 miles in pure electric mode before the engine kicks in, and 42 mpg from that point forward.

0-60 in 5.7 seconds.

I will say I also thought this too, but now having been a VW owner, I’ve had no issues (so far). The impression I get is that German cars do require more maintenance and cost, and many people fall behind on this, hence issues.

Currently drive a VW GTI which I absolutely LOVE, but am thinking may need to get a slightly bigger car as my daughter is getting older (she’s 2), and I’m getting older (minor back aches but getting in and out of this car is annoying sometimes). I do not want a full size SUV, it’s just the two of us, I’m merely looking for something that sits higher, has 4WD, and still has the handling of a smaller car, not a traditional SUV. I drove Japanese cars all my life growing up and not sure I want to go back one, especially after owning the GTI. I’ve been looking at the VW Tiguan, BMW X1, Mercedes GLA.
