It is weird, but who cares.

I mean, if you go to cosplay levels people will definitely think you're a little weird and nerdy. But who cares? Nerds find happiness in their interests and hobbies and pursue them and that is great.

I don't cosplay but I have a lot of friends that do because I have kind of half a food in 'nerd culture' and so know a lot of people there. I will say, I think cosplay is kind of like someone who is super into softball. I'm not into it, I don't really get it, but who cares if it makes them happy.

But I do think furries are weird, FWIW. Anything taken to the extreme!

What I find odd in this is that OP says there’s no purpose.
Dressing up for Halloween or for some kind of cosplay event isnt exciting to me my but I don’t think it’s “weird.” It just isn’t my taste.
But I do think it’s weird to create an elaborate costume for no purpose.
What’s it for? The bedroom?—-on cool. But...to just like...put on and walk around wearing it on a random Tuesday? I don’t get it.

Halloween - no.

Cosplay at conventions and such - yes.

Totally fine in an adult relationship.

Even if your wife is really really into it (but you are not), it wouldn’t kill you to “play along” from time to time if it satisfies her.

Maybe one night a week, do the cosplay she wants; another night she can do something that turns you on. It’s all about communication.

I have friends who go to ComicCon, and a BIL who used to participate in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Lots of people enjoy it, and making your own costume is a fun challenge. Not sure how it's any weirder than any other hobbies that people have.

Been married for 15 years and we have dressed up for Halloween almost every year. Most years the standard party city stuff. A couple of times we ordered more expensive costumes if we had something fun to do (a party or event).
Maybe it’s Covid boredom but DH started working on a more serious/realistic costume. We do not go to conventions or comic con stuff or anything so I am not sure what the point of this elaborate costume is.
It is not even anything our kids are into (Star Wars) so obviously just for him. Seems weird to me but maybe it is a new thing he just spontaneously wanted to do. He says it is just something we wanted try, apparently for no purpose. Is this weird or what?
