If you have a baby and qualify for parental/maternity leave, it is yours to take- have at it.
If teachers are trying to bend and twist "parental leave" into something that it is not, such as stating parental leave can be used as paid leave now don't that they don't have childcare, then this type of leave should be denied.
Teacher have burned though all good will these past 11 months.

I asked if people who took Parental Leave realize the hypocrisy of then protesting when people take other types of FMLA leave.

It doesn't surprise me, I got attacked here for making a comment about taking FMLA when my child had a fatal degenerative disorder, and was told that people only supported it for healthy newborns.

People are not mad that a teacher gave birth and wants to stay home and bond with their 5 week old. They are mad for the hypocritical reasons listed above- they have a 3 year old and didn't secure childcare and now say they can't go back in person.

Thought FCPS is letting them bring their kids 4 days a week to address that though?

I'm not aware of any "I can't come to work as directed because I don't have childcare" leave in other professions. I'm not screaming about teachers doing this, necessarily, but what is being discussed isn't "parental leave."

It's a childcare issue that all non-teacher families have been told they should have thought of before having kids and should have to deal with as long as DL continues.

I thought this thread was in response to the teacher going on planned maternity leave. And yeah, it’s inconvenient timing especially given the return to in-person school, but get over yourself.

I wouldn't be able to afford childcare. My kid is coming with me.

Yes. All over DCUM people are upset about teachers who aren't returning to in person learning. Parental leave is a major portion of that. DCUM women all are in favor of parental leave, unless it impacts them in some way.
