Fellow Floridian! I’m from Winter Springs. My childhood was so totally normal and suburban, I never really got where all of these “Florida sucks” people are coming from. Yes, there are places that are pretty republican but there’s also a lot of liberals here too. Pretty boring but nothing too crazy. I remember a great science museum and lots of cool art museums.

As someone who’s wintering down here, yes. You have to be okay living in a place where your government officials don’t believe in government. And for many, that’s a big adjustment.

Do you live in Florida? If not, than this thread isn't for you. My MIL lives in Florida and she likes it. I have another friend who retired in Santibel Island ( early) and love it.

OP, what are your politics? And what’s your budget? Golf, beach, or walkable? Country club? 55+?

Miami is the only decent place in Florida, I am afraid. The rest is just swamp. As is half of Miami, for that matter.

We're looking in Sarasota / Clearwater area.

Stay out of Naples and SWFL in general.

I'm contemplating retiring in Florida or buying a second home in Florida, where to go? Anywhere except Miami please.
