Meh. My child's team never won a game by nearly that much, but we've certainly lost a few by close to that much. He's a U11 now, has been playing since U-9. It's certainly not fun, but in terms of the kids being discouraged, I don't know if it is all that much different than losing, say, 10-1.

Heh. This exact situation happened when my son was a U9, only in the top bracket. The team on the other side of the bracket won their first game 20-0, second 19-0, and third 15-0. We won our group games 2-0, 1-0, and 1-0, and met them in the finals as the very heavy underdog. We won 3-1, and the amount of celebration from our parents was over the top, but the kids felt like giant killers. Many of the kids from that U9 team went on to play in college, but all of us still remember that championship game very well.

Thanks good for them. Hard to get the flights right at that age and with little to no data from the Fall. So they shouldn’t have been in the bottom bracket. From the looks of it the team they played in the finals also won 22-0 and 11-0 in their first two matches. Odd.

It looks like they were in the lowest level division for the tournament. Maybe they wanted to be in a higher division and the tour and the didn’t allow it. They needed to show they deserve to be in higher divisions.

I’m surprised they did so well in the second game- usually if a team is down 35-0, it goes from chippy to flat out head hunting

Please tell us which club this was so we can avoid them in the future.

Was there an outdoor soccer tournament this weekend? Where?

Teams can win with athletes at that age. Kids won’t develop the skills they’ll need later without proper coaches
