My 5th grade Janney kid has 5 good friends and 5/6 (all but us) applied to private for 6th. These are all families who are committed to Deal (each has an older kid who attends or attended Deal) but they want in-person learning. We also have an older child at Deal.

For Deal it is about 100 kids who are struggling coming from 9-12 Wednesdays for extra support - not classes.


I think it's closer to 150-60 split evenly among the three grades; still pathetic and not in person instruction. It's helped my son with organization & caring about school again, and gives him something to look forward to (and a reason to get out of bed on Weds.) so I guess it's better than nothing.

Have you looked at the reopen plans for individual schools on the reopendc website? Every middle school across the district is open one day a week. This isn’t a Deal thing.


To further expand on this OP you can see on the plans that Deal has 100 students one day a week and Hardy has 33.

100 out of over 1400 at Deal.
33 out of over 450 at Harry.

Pathetic. Since Hardy is smaller they may be able to get it together by the fall. But this is DCPS. Doubtful.

I imagine applications to privates are up this year but thought most of the Janney/JKLM go on to Deal? Is this not the case this year? Anyone have stats?

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I think we'll be back next year. DL is DL...its fine. My kid is doing okay, but looking forward to school.
