I’ll bite. Sometimes I am very genuinely trying to be a good person and post accordingly. Other times I’m frustrated, annoyed with stupid people or with situations that resonate for me, and I’m a complete jerk and just want to smugly tell people off.

I usually end up feeling either stupid or bad in either case after I’ve posted. Honestly, I try not to even read DCUM very much because I think that overall it makes me a worse person and make me think worse of others. But it’s like a guilty pleasure sometimes and I do find certain posts relevant to my life very interesting... so here I am.

If we are aware that Russians are sowing discord through social media by trying to drive a wedge between Americans, wouldn't this concentration of some of the nation's most influential zipcodes be a good way?

I have found that so many people who post on here are genuinely trying to be helpful. And there are a few people who seem to be jerks. I think it's easy to focus on the jerks, and tbh that's probably what they want.

But, better to just ignore them and focus on the people who are here to help. Maybe they'll go away someday if people aren't constantly responding to them.

Agree with first PP, the amount of inane questions coupled with posts that are easily Googable are mind blowing. And the amount of people who don’t have common sense.

In my job, I have to smile and be nice all day long. My job entails caring and giving of myself. So DCUM kind of serves as an outlet for the snarky side of me. Although I am not nearly as cutting and just plain nasty as many other posters.

In my opinion, there are very few who are actually mean, There are many people who like to call posters mean for not agreeing with them or telling them that whatever choice they made was perfect and wonderful.


Your options are

1. Report the posts you think are mean.

2. Ask the posters of the post you find offensive why they posted what they did.

3. Find another forum.

There are a lot of hyper competitive and insecure women in the DC metropolitan area and they relieve themselves anonymously here.

If this happens often, perhaps you should either take responsibility for it (habits are not accidents) or do something to fix it. I knew a woman once who “often” said incredibly unkind things and made cruel jokes at the expense of others, and eventually it was clear that she was just using her claimed awkwardness as a get-out-of-jail free card for being a jerk.

Because they have lots of frustrations in life, with lots of pent-up anger, and no outlet for it.

And they enjoy it, too.

Exactly. Posters like this come here to be annoyed so that they can feel justified in writing cruel things to other humans anonymously.

I definitely get annoyed with some of that stuff at times, but I just don’t click on those threads or take my annoyance as a sign I should log off.

I am sometimes mean to the mean people, though.

They are so snarky, judgemental and mean. The way every thread gets turned into a mean fight name calling and making unfair assumptions about OPs.

Why so mean?
