I listened to Brabrand say on multiple town halls that video of classes would be posted so that kids in families who don't have a set up that accommodates attendance during regular hours for whatever reason could access the videos at a time that worked. ONE of my kids' teachers posts videos, the rest don't. Following through with that could have vastly helped parents like pp. This is definitely not on PP. Do you expect her to quit her job and sit with her kid during work hours?

Can you work with her on the weekends to make up the work? You could prioritize reading and math and fit in whatever else you can do. DL also doesn’t work for my daughter, but I know she does need to learn the material.

+1. You should at least try to make an effort on weekend mornings or something.

+2 we've had to supplement and catch our first grader up on the weekends and nights and it was pretty easy. Don't give up! Kids are resilient and honestly, homeschoolers cover the same amount of information in a fraction of the time. So can you.

To answer the OP: The only thing my kids miss is any asynchronous time with ST Math/MYON. Those are complete wastes of time and I will not force my kids to do them. I have them go over math concepts or read actual books.

The schools should let go of the specials and make attendance and the work optional. The kids and parents have a hard enough time getting the core subjects done.

My son stopped attending specials (PE, art, music) months ago and I didn’t realize it. He has those at the end of the day and would just log off early and play computer games. Whoopsie! Didn’t hear from any of the teachers about it so I wasn’t even aware. I work remotely in another part of the house while he does virtual school.

My son missed a few hours for an appointment once. My daughter hasn’t missed any virtual time, even when she had some gastric issues that would have kept her home from school otherwise.

What grade are your kids in? Does your school post assignments or videos? Asking to see if there’s a way to make it up. I don’t think it’s fair to ask a teacher to take extra time due to a vacation but they may already have material posted your kids can review.

Are you asking permission? They can do school in the car. Real issue is why are you traveling during Covid.

My kids are logged on everyday for the full day except the occasional doctor’s appointment and I think it was only 1.

We are considering a long road trip and the kids may have to miss a day or log on from our phones. I know this should not be a big deal but I am struggling with it.

In normal times, the kids probably miss 1-2 days per year for travel and a 1-2 times for doc or dentist.
