Also, apologize to your wife for digging in on this. He’s getting 2/3 names of your selection and she’s doing all the work right now. Plus Connor is a nice name.

Dude, your opinion means nothing here. OP, since he’s getting your name as a middle and the name is in your top three, just go with it.

This is incredibly rude. We’re in America - not Ireland. The guys didn’t “ spell it” their parents did. I hate when people say “ I spell my name this way”. No, your parents did.

OP here. We are both part Irish but we are American. Connor is the way it’s spelled her. There is no right or wrong way to spell it.

If this name was on the short list of three you both said you liked, and the baby is getting your middle name, then go with the name she loves. The whole point of making a short list is that all of the names on it are acceptable to both of you, so you’re not acting in good faith if you agree to have the name on the short list but then nix it because it’s not your favorite.

The other alternative is you get your preferred first name, but then let her choose a different middle name.

He's getting your middle name. It's in your top three. Of course, go ahead and let her have her top choice.

I would let her decide on which if the final three names to pick. That’s not “letting her decide” as you were involved in narrowing it down. And the baby will have your middle name.

But I do think I’m the case of a true tie (you both like all three names, you each have a favorite) the tie break goes to the person giving birth. That’s not a rule for parenting in general, just on the name issue.

Pregnancy/childbirth are hella hard. Give her this.

If there's a name you both like I'd go with that even if it's not your or her first choice.

My wife and I are expecting our first child - a boy - very soon. My wife has fallen in love with one name and really wants it for our son. I don’t love it but I also don’t hate it. We had 5 names and then cut it down to 3. I prefer another name but she really wants one of the others on our list. He will have my middle name. Should I just let my wife name our son the name she likes?
