That’s 904 tests administered in the first 11 days of February. They did 7,648 “re-entry” test at the beginning of the semester at the main campus with a 1.11% positivity rate. Out of the 904 current tests, there were 24 positives (2.88%).
By the way, the national stories of high case #s from the fall misrepresented the situation in Tuscaloosa. A huge # of the cases being counted were from medical faculty and staff at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, which is the biggest treatment hospital for severe covid cases in the state, and dated back to the spring.

My daughter went to Alabama, and all things considered had a very good experience and is now working in her dream job. Oh, and now she also has the $75k+ that we saved for her undergrad but didn't use to with as she pleases. Win win!
Yes you will find some..ahh...interesting folks at Bama but she was in the honors program as well as the band and really threw herself into both of those things so really had no issue finding "her people".

My friend’s kid goes there. Her roommate got sick with all the Covid symptoms, and knew it was Covid because her friends had tested positive. She told my friend’s daughter (her roommate) that she was not going to test because she didn’t want to have to quarantine and then just went about her life, going to parties etc.
So yeah.

It's time for every school to scrap their insane, draconian restrictions and let this generation have a real college experience, not a four-year prison sentence where leaving your dorm room for anything other than a COVID test is verboten. I'm looking at you, UMass Amherst and UC-Berkeley.
Also, for anyone looking to go OOS but not willing or able to pay OOS tuition or the cost of a private, Alabama still has some of the best OOS scholarships in the nation, and you don't necessarily need world-beater stats to qualify for them. My kid starts in August with almost a full ride and is counting down the days.

You know what. Good for you and good for your kid. They are going to have an awesome time. Please warn about alcohol though. It can get pretty out of hand. Alabama showed that they were right to just push through all the bad press. Looks like those kids had a good year all things considered.

I am really impressed at how incredibly savvy the University of Alabama has been with merit scholarships and recruiting strong students. I think their profile is definitely on the rise. I have been to the campus a few times, and it's definitely a very fun and typical "college" experience.
